	What is Endometriosis? During the menstrual cycle, the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium, builds up, breaks down, and sheds, leaving the body through the vagina. When this type of tissue is found outside of the uterus but still responds to hormonal cycles it is called Endometriosis. Download Literature
	What is Laparoscopy? Laparoscopy is a way of doing surgery without making a large incision (cut). A thin, lighted tube—known as the laparoscope—is inserted into the abdomen through a small incision. The laparoscope is a small camera that allows your doctor to see the pelvic organs. If a problem needs to be fixed, other instruments are used. Download Literature
Typical vesicovaginal fistula with uterus in place Possible fistulas	What is a Vesicovaginal (Bladder-Vaginal) Fistula and how is it repaired? A Fistula is an abnormal duct or passage resulting from injury, disease, or a congenital disorder that connect an abscess, cavity, or hollow organ to the body surface or to another hollow organ. Vesicovaginal fistula is an abnormal duct between the bladder and the vagina. This condition usually causes distress and discomfort. The patient experiences passage of urine through the vagina and urinary incontinence. This type of connection can be managed initially with a catheter and if the connection persists surgical repair is warranted. Repair of vesicovaginal fistula may be done in a few ways: 1. Vaginally (difficult for high fistulas) 2. Laparatomy (large abdominal incision) 3. Laparoscopy (including robotic repair) Dr. Nezhat has been performing laparoscopic repair of vesicovaginal fistula since the early 1990s.The Nezhat team was involved in the first case of laparosopic repair of this type of fistula Nezhat CH, Nezhat F, Nezhat C, Rottenberg H.
