Operative gynecologic laparoscopy has become the accepted modality for treatment of various abdominal and pelvic pathologies. During the past several years, enormous technical advances have taken place to make this procedure practical, safe, and economical.

Course Overview

The directors of this educational activity are committed to preserving the wisdom of those before them as they seek state of the art technology. Since 1982, they have gained extensive experience sharing their knowledge with colleagues from the United States and abroad.

Lectures will focus on the fundamentals of laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, including instrumentation, room set-up, lasers, electrosurgery, harmonic scalpel, and robotics. Participants will observe live surgery with interactive discussion, as well as participate in various hands-on laboratory sessions utilizing both animate and inanimate models.

Educational Objectives

The objective of this workshop is to provide opportunity for instruction and guidance in the field of advanced operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. The faculty organizers and sponsors assume no responsibility and cannot guarantee the achievement of any specific skill(s) as a result of completing this course. At the conclusion of this seminar, we feel participants should be able to:

1.       Describe laparoscopic and hysteroscopic techniques including office laparoscopy and laparoscopic microsurgery.

2.       List indications and contraindications to laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery.

3.       Be familiar with operating room set-up and instrumentation essential for laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery.

4.       Explain the physics, tissue interaction, and safety measures associated with the use of lasers, electrosurgery and ultrasonic energy.

5.       Identify normal pelvic anatomy.

6.       Describe laparoscopic techniques of electrosurgery, ultrasonic energy, hydrodissection, suturing, stapling, and clip application.

7.       Perform loop ligatures, Endoknot, suturing and stapling techniques.
