Ceana Nezhat, MD, FACOG, FACS

Dr. Ceana Nezhat is a leading pioneer in the field of laparoscopic surgery, specializing in laparoscopic treatment of severe and multi-organ endometriosis, laparoscopic management of infertility, and urologic and pelvic reconstruction. He has been instrumental in modifying many established procedures performed by laparotomy to laparoscopy with similar or improved outcomes. Examples of such include pelvic reconstruction, vaginal vault suspension, and treatment of urologic, gastrointestinal, and extragenital endometriosis, laparoscopic myomectomy for large uterine fibroids, and large pelvic and ovarian tumors. His practice is one of the leading referral centers worldwide for fertility enhancing surgery and difficult hysterectomies. Staying in the forefront of advancing minimally invasive surgery and technology, Dr. Nezhat began teaching Introduction to Robotic Surgery in 2003 and performed the first gynecologic robotic surgery in Georgia.

Dr. Nezhat has a special interest in endometriosis and is an advocate of early detection and treatment. He has treated thousands of women with endometriosis, including teens and some as young as ten. Currently, he is increasing awareness of this disorder by educating those in primary roles in the lives of young women, such as teachers, school counselors and nurses. He is also active in educating other healthcare providers, including pediatricians and family practitioners, on the signs and symptoms of endometriosis to promote early detection. One example of his contribution in teaching was the awarding of the Society of Reproductive Surgeons’ In-Training Award for Research for his manuscript entitled “Adolescent Endometriosis: the Journey to Diagnosis”.  For a full list of awards, click here.
