Letters From Patients

The following excerpts are from letters our patients have written to us over the years. We are sharing their words with you with the hope that you may find comfort, guidance, and the knowledge that you are not alone. Please check back often for new postings.

Thank you for giving me my life back. After a year of suffering every day, it appeared to me that this would be the way I would have to live the rest of my life. I was hurting so bad that I never felt like being with my precious daughters and sons-in-law, my husband, or my grandchildren. Each day I got up and each night when I went to bed, I still carried that burden of pain. I continued to pray and have faith that the Lord would intervene in some way and help me.

I went to several doctors who couldn’t help me. Then I saw a couple of your patients at our family reunion. They were really concerned about me and they begged me to come and see you. They were really amazed with you and your facility. I finally called your office and made an appointment. My first impression of your office and of you was unexplainable. I had actually found someone who really cared and wanted to help me. You all seem to really care about your patients and do all that you can to help your patients.

In December you did surgery on me and addressed all the problems that I had. It was such a blessing and an answer from God that there was actually something wrong and detected, and you took care of it.

Life is way too short to be miserable like I had been. The love of God is wonderful and I thank him everyday for the opportunity to meet you, and for you really and truly giving me my life back. I have been really amazed at how far some of your patients travel just to come see you – it is truly worth it. The day that I brought my daughters up there, they both told me on the way home that they were really amazed with you and they knew you would help me.

May God richly bless you and your staff for touching many people and making a major difference in our lives. Thank you so much for what you have done for me, and what you are going to do for me in the future.

It is with the sincerest of heart that I send you this note of appreciation. I struggle with health issues which often times puts me in a fragile state. In this world of hurry up we are challenged with too little time to accomplish the tasks at hand. The demands on you are enormous yet you somehow find the time to listen and above all, sincerely care for my well being. It is rare that one can feel their doctor is also a friend and for that I am truly blessed.

In no way do I mean to critique others, but I have experienced health care providers who are more about the time and money. You are a good and kind person and I do believe God sent me to you.

May you be blessed every day of your life as you bring great value to all that you touch.

Every day I am amazed at how quickly I am healing and feeling like my old self again. I am so very thankful that you, such a talented, intelligent and dedicated doctor, could do my surgery. I felt that I was in the best hands. The staff at Northside Hospital were all wonderful and your own staff is the best I have ever come in contact with. Tara and Mary Ann are the most patient and kind people I know. They have been most accommodating and comforting to me.

You are a miracle worker for me and I so appreciated your calm counseling. Thank you for being the best doctor anyone could ask for.

I wanted to write all of you a card to express my sincere appreciation for everything. It has been almost five years since my hysterectomy and subsequent hormone implants, and I’ve never felt better in my whole life. It’s so nice having the “roller-coaster” Ride smoothed out. Now I can enjoy everyday of the month and not just half of the month. As the owner of a healthcare consulting company, I’m well aware of the constant challenges faced by medical businesses. I feel so fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Nezhat and his whole team, since everyone is so professional and highly competent. Thank you again for all of your caring support and amazing clinical expertise!

I have been trying to write this letter for many weeks now, but didn't have the exact words to deeply express how my life has changed thanks to you and your wonderful staff! Prior to our first meeting, my life was full of debilitating pain and discomfort for at least two out of four weeks every month. For you see, I found out that I suffered from fibroids and severe endometriosis.

Prior to visiting your office, my husband and I tried unsuccessfully to conceive for over three years. We visited fertility doctors and several gynecologists. On my last evaluation with a fertility doctor, he discovered a large cyst on my right ovary which interrupted further assistance from his office. I was then referred back to my gynecologist who immediately insisted on surgery, mainly to rule out ovarian cancer. I made the appointment to have the surgery, but was not comfortable with this doctor performing the surgery. For you see, I visited this particular doctor for several years, complaining about the same symptoms, and she did not conduct any additional tests other than my annual Pap tests. This doctor never mentioned anything pertaining to endometriosis or fibroids as a possible cause for my menstrual problems. My symptoms included: menstrual bleeding for 12 to 14 days, severe abdominal bloating, severe back and leg pain, cramping, etc.

In speaking with a friend about these problems, she indicated that she experienced the same types of symptoms and suggested I see Dr. Ceana Nezhat. She raved about Dr. Nezhat and his staff and how he "cured" her. The last thing I wanted to do was go to yet another doctor and have to start over! However, during my research I was very impressed with the information found on Dr. Nezhat's website, especially the letters from patients who were cared for by Dr. Nezhat and staff. I even asked my mom to view his website to solicit her thoughts. My husband and I both agreed to see Dr. Nezhat.

From the moment of my first appointment I knew that Dr. Nezhat was the doctor who would liberate me of these terrible, painful times during my menstrual cycles. Dr. Nezhat immediately knew what was wrong with me based on my symptoms and instantly started my evaluation process. He told me that he would have to perform surgery, but I was at ease with his decision and confident in his ability to "cure" me.

Dr. Nezhat performed two successful surgeries for me. Before both surgeries I prepared myself for what I thought I would feel like after surgery, and to my surprise I did not experience any pain or discomfort. I am now free of endometriosis and most of my fibroids were removed. The large cyst was removed from my right ovary without having to remove the ovary. As a result, I now have very manageable menstrual periods which are 98% free of pain. I no longer suffer from bloating, back, abdominal, or leg pain. I no longer have to stay at home in bed for the first 3 to 4 days of my cycle. My normal cycles now last an average of 5 to 6 days which are literally non-events. Finally, I can now lead a very normal life each and every day of the month!

Dr. Nezhat, I would like to thank you, Mary Ann, Tara, Angela, and the rest of your WONDERFUL staff for giving me my life back. I truly believe that you and your hands are touched by God as you are my MIRACLE WORKER! Please accept my sincere thanks on behalf of me, my husband, and everyone else you have been instrumental in granting a normal, pain-free life.

May God continue to bless you, your family, and your staff!

When I was told I needed a hysterectomy, and the only way I could have this procedure was by, (as I call it) the old, traditional "open faced" method, I was very frustrated. Fortunately, I was referred to you by my doctor. From the very first call, I felt this was a place for answers.

I am sure most women who come to you have agonized over their condition. Mary Ann works into the evening to return calls and assure patients that they will be in the best of care ASAP. Mary efficiently welcomes the patients and proceeds with the necessary paper work. Lauren eases your fears and listens to your history. She asks insightful questions while balancing between respecting privacy and giving comfort. It is a very calm, orderly climate and I felt the whole office was aware of, and working on, my case.

From our first meeting I sensed your caring nature but, I could also tell you were a perfectionist. That is what I wanted. You reviewed my paperwork and proceeded to give me a very thorough exam, noting several life long conditions that have never been brought to my attention. I was appreciative that you took time to explain my situation but, I was blessed and relieved to be in your care. Surgery is very traumatic, but I was confident my condition was well within your repertoire.

Thank you for using your knowledge and skill on me and for your generosity in sharing this information with others, like your fellow, so a broader audience can benefit as I have. I improve everyday. There were no surprises. I am very grateful for your professional care before, during, and after surgery.

"This is a long overdue thank you for my surgery that you performed exactly 5 weeks ago today."

"I am doing fine and still cannot believe you were able to get everything out of me, and then some. I was, and continue to be, overwhelmed by the magnitude not only of your skill and expertise, but your humility."

"I truly believe that God answered my prayers when I sat in Dr. 'D's' office back in November and said to God at that very moment that there truly must be someone, somewhere who can help me, then Dr. 'D' walked back in the room with your name. I though my mouth would drop open. (I will never forget that moment.)"

"I am anxious to see my continued progress over these next several months and I pray everyday that none of this ever returns. Thank you again, this was a gift to me more than you will ever know."

"We just wanted to send you a photo of our baby girl and thank you again for your part in this miracle. We truly believe that God led us to you, and through your talent and hard work, He was able to conceive [our baby] in what was once my endometriosis ridden body. Our dream of a biological child has come true after twelve years of marriage and two beautiful, adopted sons. God bless you, Dr. Nezhat!"

"A few months ago my mom and I came into your office, not knowing you or your practice very well, just hoping that some how you could help me with my stomach problems. While waiting in your office, my mom and I read through a book of many thank you notes and success stories performed by you. At the time I didn't understand how you were ever going to be able to cure me, because at the rate I was going no one could! Sure enough you nailed it and told me what was wrong with my stomach and what we needed to do to make me healthy again! When you said the word surgery I almost died, but before I could even contemplate having surgery, you had me in and out of that hospital, healthy and cured.

Dr. Nezhat, you saved my life - no more missing school and not being able to do things - you cured me. I am so thankful that you were able to cure my stomach pains, there are no words to describe it.

Dr. Nezhat, you gave my life back to me and now I can have a normal and fun senior year. You and your staff will never know how thankful and grateful my family and I are that you came into my life and helped me. Thank you for all your hard work and determination to cure me. You are truly a blessing. You have a way of making everyone feel so special."

"I am happy to report that I just had my first (post-surgery) period and it was virtually pain free! I kept waiting for the 'real pain' to kick in, but it never happened. I am also happy to report that I am now able to be on a regular workout schedule. No more horrible tummy aches and fatigue to keep me down. It's funny how you just learn to live in pain for so many years that it just seems normal, but now I really know what 'normal' women feel like! Meeting you was one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I want to say thank you from myself, my husband, and my supportive family.  You and your most wonderful, caring, nurse were a definite blessing in my life. Dr. Nezhat, thank you for 'fixing' me. Please continue to give women the health and happiness that we all deserve! You are truly amazing people."

"I've been a longtime patient of yours, and as always, from the beginning this entire experience was first rate. My recovery was much quicker than I had anticipated. Not only was I still free of the endometriosis that you first treated nine years ago, but you also discovered that my appendix was adhered to my back and you removed it. In doing so, you relieved the back pain that had been attributed to degenerative disk.

I felt pampered and cared for. The nursing staff at Northside Hospital admire you and tend to take very great care with your patients. I felt better after the surgery than I did for the six months prior to the surgery.

Thank you again for the years of training and dedication you have invested in your profession that enables you to help people like me."

"Words cannot describe what I feel when I look into my son's eyes. For me to even have a son is a miracle. I never thought it would happen to me. I feel so blessed that I found you. You and your staff were always there for me and you have all helped my dreams come true. Thank you for being so wonderful to me. I will never forget how hard you all worked for me."

“This is to let you know what a special doctor and staff all of you are. I’ve not only entrusted my entire family to you, but also my closest friends. I’ve told you before but I’m going to tell you again – your care is above any health professionals I’ve ever come in contact with.”

“After 15 years of pain and frustration in dealing with endometriosis, I was referred by a friend to Dr. Nezhat. I had my last surgery in July 1999. I was 39 years old, had one beautiful 17 year old daughter, and an illness that had lasted for 15 years.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Nezhat and all of his staff for their chosen profession. They have made a tremendous difference in my quality of life. His expertise not only affects his patients, but is far-reaching. There is no reason to struggle with this disease any longer than you have to.”

“Dr. Ceana, thank you for caring for me all of these years. Thank you for not letting me suffer more than I had to. You are the greatest in my book and I will tell other women in need to come see you, not only for their problems but for the kindness that you offer. I love you dearly and thank you for what you do as a doctor and a person.”

“I bet you have wondered where I am. Well, as luck would have it, we’re pregnant again! This baby is due sometime around Christmas. What a gift!

Once again, I extend my deepest thanks to you. I am all the more certain now that the surgery you performed on me was nothing short of a miracle, and I thank God every day for putting you here on earth.”

“I must not let another day pass by that I do not tell you how good I feel and how much I appreciate what you’ve done for me. You truly are a talented and skilled surgeon combined with knowledge and kindness that surpasses all others.

I truly wish that everyone with a need could have you for their doctor. Thanks again, for you are the very best!”

“I informed your office of my pregnancy a few weeks ago. However, we wanted to send you a personal note to thank you for the excellent care you provided for me. We find it remarkable that one four-hour surgery enabled us to conceive a child after so many years.

My overall health improved after surgery. We also feel fortunate that I avoided major surgery and fertility drugs, which my former doctors prescribed. Thanks again and best wishes to you.”

“We are pleased to let you know that after only 2 months from the endometriosis surgery you performed, we are pregnant.

We had been trying for 5 years with at least 5 different physicians and have had 2 GIFTS, one laser surgery, and many drugs.

Most of all, we want to thank you for what you have done. There is no other way to word it. You and your staff are truly the best in the United States (and we have been everywhere!)”

“As I sit here and finish the thank you notes for all of the beautiful gifts our daughter has received, I realize that I haven’t yet written to the person who made all this possible. We have a truly beautiful little girl.

The decision I made to have surgery the year before and having the many fibroids successfully removed has changed our lives so wonderfully. Nature is both kind and cruel to us; had I never had a child, you really cannot imagine what it is that you are missing. I’m very glad I didn’t miss it!

Many thanks to you for your guidance and advice, and especially for your talents in this field.”

“I have searched for words to express to you how thankful we are to you for helping [our daughter]. Yesterday we watched her celebrate her 11th birthday. I’ve never seen her happier. I got teary-eyed watching her stand straight up and lean over to bowl! Without your help, that would have never been possible. Your hands are anointed by God and I know he works through you in miraculous ways.”

“This week marks one year since you performed my surgery for fibroids and endometriosis. This has been the first year in over ten that I have been fully functional for the entire month every month, without the terror of two weeks of excruciating pain between ovulation and the end of my cycle.

Well, the absence of pain is not the only miracle that has totally changed my life. At the age of 44, I am now three months pregnant, totally unexpected but quite welcome! My little girl is due in December, and I will watch her like a hawk to make sure she does not have to endure what I have been through.

My heartfelt thanks to you and your brothers for making all these changes in my life possible – for helping me return to being “normal.”

“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

From the very first phone call it was clear that you and your staff are dedicated to excellence and professionalism. I was treated with compassion and respect every step of the way. I promise to be your staunchest advocate. Your practice epitomizes what the doctor-patient relationship should be.

I still can’t get used to my new body. I keep expecting the pain because it was so much a part of me. Every morning, while walking to the train, I’m incredulous that I’m not in pain with every step. There’s a moment when I wake up in the morning that I’m afraid to roll over because I think it will hurt. When I realize that it won’t, I jump out of bed eager to start my day.”

“Once again, I extend my deepest thanks to you. I am all the more certain now that the surgery you performed on me was nothing short of a miracle, and I thank God every day for putting you here on earth. I promise I will call the office when the baby comes so you can see it! Thanks again for everything!”

“I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your knowledge, time, and sympathetic way! It’s so nice to find an entire office full of people who seem to really care about their patients, and have the deep knowledge of endometriosis.”

“I just had to write to tell you the great results I am having from my past surgery. The day after I left my postop appointment, I started my menstrual cycle. It lasted one day shorter than usual and was 99% pain free – it was a non-event! I am so excited! Additionally, the removal of endometriosis from my bowel and bladder has proven to be a success. I have gone from experiencing pain associated with these organs incessantly, to being about 98% pain free!”

“Your services far exceeded my expectations. I came to you for problems of irregular and heavy bleeding, painful periods, and with the knowledge of having been exposed to DES and a history of uterine deformity and cervical cancer. My surprise was that I came out of surgery basically pain free from years of chronic back pain and anterior leg pain.

No one ever suggested it may be endometriosis or kidney problems, not to mention scar tissue from previous surgery. You are now working on finding the right hormone replacement for me. In the past I’ve been given whatever the current sales rep was pushing, with disastrous results. I’m doing great so far. I have every confidence we’ll find the right combination.

My husband is thankful I don’t have a big ugly scar and with the speed of my recovery. My family also sends their thanks for how you treated them.”
