|
A: Minimally invasive robotic surgery offers numerous potential benefits over conventional abdominal surgeries, including:
|
| Q: How long will is my expected recovery time in the hospital? |
| A:
In general most of our patients are ready to go home the same day. In
cases of more extensive procedures an overnight stay is reasonable for
observation but still the majority of those patients will go home the
next day. Recovery is fast and most patients are able to resume their
regular activities (including work) within 1-2 weeks. That is much
faster than the usual 4-6 weeks of recovery after open abdominal
surgery. |

| Q: Can patients with severe Endometriosis be treated through laparoscopic procedures effectively? |
| A: Endometriosis of any kind is actually treated much more effectively by
laparoscopy. Endometriosis can be present in a variety of forms. Certain
lesions are very small (a few mm in size) and cannot easily be seen by
the naked eye, or are in locations (such as underneath the uterus) which
are sometimes inaccessible without the laparoscope. Severe
endometriosis can cause adhesions, the treatment of which is described
above, or can infiltrate deeply into tissues. When these deep lesions
are in hard to find places, laparoscopy is the only method for effective
treatment. Infiltration of endometriosis near vital structures such as
the bowel, bladder, ureter, or blood vessels requires incredibly precise
treatment to prevent injury to those structures and bleeding. The
magnification of the laparoscope combined with the flexibility and
precision of cutting tools such as the CO2 laser permits this type of treatment. |
| Q: How experienced is Dr. Nezhat with the diagnosis and treatment of Endometriosis? |
|
A: Dr. Ceana Nezhat is a leading pioneer in
the field of laparoscopic surgery, specializing in laparoscopic
treatment of severe and multi-organ endometriosis, laparoscopic
management of infertility, and urologic and pelvic reconstruction. He
has been instrumental in modifying established procedures performed by
laparotomy to laparoscopy with similar or improved outcomes.
Dr. Nezhat has a special interest in the area of endometriosis and is an advocate of early detection and treatment. He has treated thousands of women with endometriosis. Currently, he is increasing awareness of this disorder by educating those in primary roles in the lives of young women, including gynecologists and family practitioners, on the signs and symptoms of endometriosis to promote early detection. |
